SBI Clerk Selection Process 2026
The selection process for Junior Associate consists of multiple stages.
Stage 1 – Preliminary Examination
Candidates first appear for the online Preliminary Examination.
Stage 2 – Main Examination
Candidates who qualify the Preliminary Examination are called for the Main Examination.
Stage 3 – Local Language Proficiency Test
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the specified local language of the State/UT for which they have applied.
SBI’s official Junior Associate notification explains that the local-language test is conducted after the Main Examination but before joining. Candidates who have studied the specified local language in Class 10 or 12 and possess the appropriate certificate/marksheet may be exempt from the separate language test, subject to the notification’s conditions.
SBI Clerk Preliminary Exam Pattern 2026
The Preliminary Examination generally contains three sections:
| Subject | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 Minutes |
| Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 Minutes |
| Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 Minutes |
| Total | 100 | 100 | 60 Minutes |
The Preliminary Examination is therefore a speed-based test, and candidates need to balance accuracy with time management.
SBI Clerk Main Exam Pattern 2026
The Main Examination covers a wider range of subjects.
A typical SBI Junior Associate Main Examination structure is:
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General/Financial Awareness | 50 | 50 |
| General English | 40 | 40 |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 50 | 50 |
| Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude | 50 | 60 |
| Total | 190 | 200 |
The Main Examination is generally conducted for 2 hours 40 minutes, with sectional timings.
Candidates should verify the final 2026 pattern from the official SBI notification because SBI can revise the examination structure.
SBI Clerk Local Language Test
The Local Language Proficiency Test, commonly known as LPT, is an important part of SBI Junior Associate recruitment.
Candidates must be able to:
- Read
- Write
- Speak
- Understand
the specified local language of the State/UT selected in their application.
SBI’s official notification states that candidates who cannot qualify the specified local-language test are not offered appointment. Candidates producing Class 10 or Class 12 marksheets/certificates showing that they studied the specified local language can be exempt from the separate language test, subject to the applicable rules.
Important for Candidates
Do not select a state merely because it has fewer vacancies.
Before choosing a State/UT, make sure you meet its local-language requirement.
